Lot Essay:

River Sun is the conceptual hinge of the exhibition. Parry’s work is not a literal reproduction of a river surface, but a visual meditation on light itself. The reflection and blur turn photography into a painterly abstraction, dissolving the boundary between media. In the history of art, photography has often sought to emulate painting, while painting has responded by focusing on perception and light. This work demonstrates that today the conversation continues, and the medium is no longer the defining factor—light is.
